“You can clutch the past so tightly to your chest that it leaves your arms too full to embrace the present.” -Jan Glidewell
Close your eyes and think about something you want to accomplish this summer. Perhaps it is something you’ve always meant to do, but found it still undone at the end of past summers. It doesn’t have to be a huge thing, just one thing.
This summer is going to be different. When this summer comes to a close, that one thing will be accomplished, but only if we say goodbye to the past.
Think about this: Could your past be in the way?
Is your home so full of stuff from the past that there’s no room for you to live in the present?
If you’ve been taking a few minutes a day to clear out stuff that obviously doesn’t fit, keep up the good work! Remember, clothes aren’t the only thing that may no longer fit. Think about hobbies, books and other items, too.
And what about your thoughts? Do you let events that happened in the past keep you from doing things now? Have you convinced yourself that you’re not creative enough or smart enough to do what you dream of doing?
Perhaps it’s time to realize you may be listening to a version of yourself that no longer exists. You are more experienced and have acquired more skills than you had when you were younger. Think of all of the things you have learned and how you have changed and grown during the past year or two.
STEP INTO YOUR ACCOMPLISHING FUTURE
Now, imagine that it’s the last day of summer and you’ve done the one thing you wanted to accomplish.
Take a few minutes and write down what you did. What steps did you take? How did it feel when you did it? Were you by yourself or with others? At home or away? Include as many details as you can.
FIRST STEPS FIRST
Whatever you wrote down for your first step is the step you are about to take. TAKE IT! You can do it! I believe in you. Do you now see how close you are to accomplishing your dream?
I’d love for you to comment below and tell us what you are planning to accomplish this summer! I’ll be cheering you on, alongside all your inspiring friends at the FIG Basket!
Accomplishment: It’s a piece of cake!
Hello to my Accomplishing Summer, Goodbye (to the clutter of my past),
