I saw a ladybug while I was taking my morning walk, grabbed my camera (cell phone), and took a photo. I looked at the picture and saw – a red blob. The camera was focused on something else, so the ladybug was out of focus. When I went back to try for a better photo, the ladybug was gone. My photo opportunity had flown away.
Two Ways I Can Focus: Forward Progression or Negative Regression
Then I thought, “How many times does that happen in other areas of my life?” There is an opportunity to move forward and make progress, but I’m too focused on the negative aspects:
- What do I have to give up?
- How much time will this take?
- What if it doesn’t work out?
How often is my life blurry because I’m focused on things that don’t matter?
Am I Blessed? Am I Thankful?
As Thanksgiving Day approaches in the United States, people start thinking about their blessings and why they are thankful. Have you ever wondered what your world would be like if you focused on the positive all the time?
I’m not talking about ignoring danger or refusing to be proactive and plan ahead. What if we all would develop the habit of finding the glimmer of hope when the dark clouds are obscuring our view? Or simply calling the dark clouds “teaching moments” instead of dark clouds?
Inconveniences or Delights?
The other day I was sitting in my car waiting for a long, slow, freight train to pass. At first, I looked to see if the end was in sight, then I started looking at the train cars. It was interesting to see the official information painted on the outside. Eventually, I realized that many of the cars had been tagged by graffiti artists. I was no longer being delayed by a train; I was attending a rolling art show! That slight shift in focus turned an inconvenience into a delight.
How about you my favorite FIG? Do you want to join me as I begin shifting my focus to the joyful side of life? Yes, there will always be obstacles, barriers, and hindrances, but today I want to begin viewing life like it is a rolling art show. That seems so much more enjoyable.
