What can $833 a month buy?
That amount is the average monthly premium for a family of 4 with a yearly deductible of $7,983.
What can $14.5 MILLION buy?
That is the average salary of a pharmaceutical CEO in 2015.
What can $24 BILLION buy?
That is the amount drug companies spend per year convincing doctors to prescribe their drugs to YOU!
What can $457 BILLION buy?
That is the amount of money Americans spent on prescription drugs in 2015.
That’s a lot of money.
There are medications that are necessary but there are also a whole lot of unnecessary prescription written. The choice to tear up the little white paper is up to you. By looking at the above statistics, you can see why doctors write so many prescriptions. It is not because Americans are so sick, it’s because Americans are shifting responsibility for their health to a doctor and a drug.
We want to trust that our doctor makes our health their priority. But honestly, there is no way that they can make our health their priority because they see a different patient every 10-20 minutes. Do the math. If Doctor Helpful sees 6 patients an hour (that’s probably low), times 8 hours a day, times 5 days a week. That’s 240 sick people a week.
There is no way that your future health resonates with your doctor’s brain. I’m sorry to tell you but you do not receive individualized treatment.
YOU ARE NOT THAT SPECIAL!
The term that is used in medical school is “Treat them and Street them”. That means your doctor has 10 minutes to decide whether you need any tests run, you need a referral to another specialist, or you need a prescription medication. More than likely you will need all three because your doctor gets a monetary kickback from each of them.
BEHAVIORAL ECONOMICS AND FEAR!
We are fearful of not taking medication. It is just the way we have been taught. You may not even realize it, but the world of BIG PHARMA is masterfully clever in seducing you to take medication. They’ve even named this seductive marketing technique: Behavioral Economics. This relatively new science has proven that humans will choose immediate rewards over higher future health benefits.
DON’T CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEMAND
It is very uncommon to meet someone who is not using some type of medication for something that their doctor believes is “wrong” with their body. Is something really wrong with you or is your doctor making more money if you take the medication, get the test run, or go see another specialist?
THESE STATS ARE CRAZY!
- You may have read about how so many Americans are hooked on opioids which are prescribed painkillers. What you may not know is that the price of Evzio, an auto-injected drug that is used to treat opioid overdose jumped from $690 to $4000 a month in the last year. Is that an oxymoron? Stop prescribing the opioids!
- The new cancer drug Bavencio is about $156,000 a year per patient.
- The new bladder cancer treatment Tecentriq costs $150,000 a year, that is $12,500 a month to break it down.
- The cost of insulin for diabetics tripled between 2003 and 2013. And the price of the 40-year-old EpiPen for allergies has increased 500% since 2007.
ARE YOU SEEING A PROBLEM?
Who is paying for your drugs? Not your insurance company. Everybody else in the U.S. is paying for your drugs when they pay their insurance payment. What a crazy cycle. Your insurance rates are high because you are subsidizing other people’s high-cost medicines.
The drug companies are about to release a trial prescription for a new Alzheimer’s drug. $600,000 (that’s a 6 with 5 zeros) a year per patient and it is being prescribed to every patient with this disease. To pay for the medicine, everyone’s premiums go up. Somebody has to pay for them.
The BIG PROBLEM is!
There is NO regulation of prescription drugs. They can charge whatever they want to. And obviously, they are.
I know I’m merely a drop in the ocean in the fight against BIG PHARMA’s control when I refuse to take medication, but my friend, this is simply WRONG. What if ALL U.S. citizens refused to fall victim to what the pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies are doing. My Mom and Dad both died when they were in their 90’s. Neither of them took medication and rarely went to a doctor. I often think how different this world would be if there were more citizens like them.
I’m sorry but I get a LOT upset about this subject and I hope you will too. I can help you choose alternative routes should you decide to do so. Alternative health will actually heal you instead of masking your symptoms that merely results in you taking additional medications due to the side effects of the current ones you are taking.
